Day 2 NYC
Day 2 and an atmospheric misty drizzley day, raining all day. We hope it's not an omen for the rest of the trip (sorry Australia!). We started with a long subway trip 'uptown' to the Cloisters, a purpose built structure housing medieval and early renaissance art (with the old columns, doorways and even entire chapels shipped from europe and re-built as part of the new old- looking structure!). The works were quality. Next museum stop was the museum of natural history (dinosaur skeletons and stuffed animal in cabinets, and a newer plantentarium). Then across a wet and quiet central park to the Met for art overload! Huge range of art, we stuck to early renaissance and european art only, some american art (although most was shut for renovation) and even that was an overload! The amount of impressionist work was silly, whole rooms full of single artists. By now we were waining and rushed around the Guggenhiem (building more interesting than the art in it), went to Bloomingdales and down 5th Ave (shops were shut, lucky for the credit cards!!!) to the Rockerfeller centre and home. Dinner by room service because we were too tired to go out! Phew... Today we hope for blue skies to go on the staten island ferry (view of statue of liberty) and up the empire state building. In the afternoon it's goodbye to New York as we fly to Las Vegas. (Pictures are in reverse order)
