America, Done!
San Francisco for us consisted of steep roads, Macy's department store, cable cars, the golden gate bridge and alcatraz. Kind of a laid back city, a bit like australia (complete with eucalyptus) but with more homeless people and the other previously mentioned attractions. Alcatraz island wasn't as good as it could be, most of the buildings on the island were either gutted by fire in 1970 or have been literally allowed to fall apart, with only the main cell block maintained intact. But that is haunting enough in itself, and although we out there on a calm and sunny day, one can imagine that life on the rock wasn't much fun. We had some good (if hazy) views of the bay on the boat out there. The historic cable cars were also good fun, although a bit tricky with all our luggage! Goodbye America, Australia here we come...
